How can I make painting a relaxing daily habit?

Painting for just 10–15 minutes a day is a lovely way to relax. Your kit is small and ready to go, so it's easy to make painting a calm part of your day.

How do I make painting a habit?

  1. Pick a regular time. Morning coffee, a lunch break or before bed all work well. Painting at the same time each day helps it stick.
  2. Keep your kit where you can see it. With the palette clipped to the sketchbook and a filled water brush, you can start in seconds. No cup of water needed.
  3. Start small. One leaf, one cup or a few color swatches is enough. Small paintings feel easy to finish.
  4. Set a short timer. Ten minutes takes the pressure off. If you want to keep going, you can.
  5. Date your pages. Looking back through your sketchbook is a wonderful way to see how far you've come.

How do I keep it relaxing?

  • Let go of perfect. Watercolor has a mind of its own, and that's part of the fun.
  • Focus on the moment. Notice how the colors spread and blend as you paint.
  • Put on calm music or paint in a quiet corner with soft light.
  • Be kind to yourself. Some days you'll love what you paint, and some days you won't. Every page still counts.

What if I run out of ideas?

  • Paint something from your day, like your breakfast, the weather or a flower you saw.
  • Choose a theme for each week, such as fruit, trees or sky.
