Your kit is made to travel, so it's perfect for painting in a park, on a balcony or on vacation. A little preparation makes painting on the go easy and relaxing.
What should I do before I go?
- Fill your water brush. There's no need to bring a cup of water, because the water brush holds water in its handle.
- Clip your palette to your sketchbook. The art clip keeps your paints and paper together, even on your lap.
- Pack a few tissues. They're handy for blotting and quick cleanups.
- Wear your wristband. It gives you a quick place to wipe your brush between colors.
What helps while I'm painting outside?
- Find some shade. Direct sun dries paint very quickly and makes the white page glaring and hard to look at.
- Keep it small and simple. Try a quick sketch of one tree, a cup of coffee or a view, rather than a whole scene.
- Expect faster drying. Wind and warm weather dry your layers sooner, so work in smaller sections.
- Expect slower drying in cool, damp weather. Give each layer extra time before painting over it.
How do I pack up?
- Leave your sketchbook open for a few minutes so the page can dry before you close it.
- It's fine to close the palette while the paint is still a little damp. See "How do I pack my palette if the paint is still wet?"
Flying with your kit?
Empty your water brush before you fly and fill it again when you arrive. See "Can I take my watercolor kit through airport security?"
Happy painting on your adventures! 🎨
