It's best to let your wooden watercolor palette dry before closing or packing it away. 💙
Our palette is made from natural walnut wood, which can absorb moisture. Closing it while the paint is still very wet may trap moisture inside, potentially causing swelling, warping, or damage to the wood.
Can I close my palette if the paint is still wet?
We recommend allowing the paint and palette to air-dry before closing them.
Watercolor paints are designed to dry and can be reactivated with a few drops of water when you're ready to paint again.
You don't need to keep the paint wet between painting sessions.
How should I pack my palette after painting?
-
Gently remove any excess water from the paint wells using a soft cloth or tissue.
-
Wipe away moisture from the wooden surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry any remaining moisture.
-
Leave the palette open on a flat surface in a dry, well-ventilated area.
-
Allow the paint and wooden palette to air-dry completely.
-
Once dry, gently close the palette and place it back inside your Watercolor Kit.
Avoid forcing the palette closed if the wooden halves no longer align properly.
What if I need to pack my kit immediately?
If you're traveling or need to put your kit away shortly after painting:
-
Remove any standing water from the paint wells.
-
Allow as much drying time as possible before packing.
-
Avoid closing the palette while excess moisture remains.
-
If the palette is still wet, keep it open in a safe, ventilated location until it dries completely.
What happens if I accidentally close my palette while it's wet?
Don't worry! Closing your palette while damp doesn't necessarily mean it has been damaged.
If this happens:
-
Open the palette as soon as possible.
-
Gently remove any excess moisture.
-
Leave it open on a flat surface to air-dry naturally.
-
Once completely dry, check whether the palette still opens and closes properly.
Avoid using a hair dryer, heater, or direct heat to speed up drying.

Helpful tip
Dried watercolor paint can be used again! 🎨
Simply add a few drops of water from your water brush to reactivate the paint during your next painting session.
There's no need to wash or soak your wooden palette between uses.
