What is the white area on my palette for, and why does it look different from the photos?

The white area on your wooden palette is your mixing space. It gives you room to blend colors and test shades before they go on your paper.

How to use the mixing area

  • Pick up a little paint with your water brush.
  • Blend it in the white area with another color or a drop of water.
  • Test the shade, then paint.
  • Wipe it with a damp cloth when you're done.

Round or square wells?

Your palette's paint wells may look slightly different from those shown in our product photos. Some palettes have rounded wells, while others have square wells.

These variations do not change the palette's intended purpose. Both designs are made for holding and mixing watercolor paints.
