Yes, feel free to experiment. Our sketchbook is designed for watercolor, and many customers also enjoy using colored pencils, light mixed-media techniques and stencils alongside it.
Works well
- Watercolor, of course
- Colored pencils, for details or texture
- Light mixed media and stencils
- Dry pastels: You can experiment with light pastel details, but they may smudge or leave powder on the paper. Test them on a blank page first.
Good to know
Our sketchbook paper is designed primarily for watercolor painting. Colored pencils, dry pastels, and other light mixed-media techniques can also be used, but results may vary.
Heavier paints, such as acrylics or oils, aren't what the paper was specifically designed for. We recommend testing any new materials on a blank page first.
Want fine outlines?
Our Fineliner is a fine black pen for outlines and details. See our article on what the Fineliner is for.
