My paints look pale or aren't creamy like in the videos

Watercolor paints can sometimes appear lighter or less creamy than expected, especially when mixed with too much water. 💙

Watercolors are naturally transparent, and their colors often become lighter as they dry. The amount of water and paint you use can make a big difference in the final result.

How can I make my colors stronger and brighter?

Try these simple techniques:

  • Gently squeeze your water brush so the tip is damp rather than dripping wet.

  • Pick up more paint and use less water when you want stronger, more vibrant colors.

  • Build up color gradually by applying additional layers after the previous layer has dried.

  • Test your colors on scrap watercolor paper before applying them to your artwork.

How can I achieve a creamier paint consistency?

If your watercolor paint has dried in the palette, you can reactivate it with a little water.

  1. Add a few drops of water to the dried paint.

  2. Allow the water to soften the paint briefly.

  3. Gently swirl your brush to reactivate the pigment.

  4. Add a little more water only if needed.

A thinner layer of dried paint may reactivate more easily than a thick amount.

Please note that watercolor consistency can vary depending on the amount of water used and whether the paint is freshly squeezed or reactivated.

You don't need to fill the palette wells with water.
