Getting started with Enode Pro

Enode Pro is the coaching side of Enode. It is built for anyone who trains other people: strength and conditioning staff, weightlifting and powerlifting coaches, university and collegiate programmes, sports science departments, and gym owners running groups. If you train only yourself, Enode One is the app you want instead.

Enode Pro comes in two halves that work together. The Portal is the web side, at portal.enode.ai, where you manage your athletes, plan sessions and review results. The Enode Pro app runs on the tablet or phone you coach from, and it is where training is actually recorded. Anything you plan in The Portal is waiting on the device when you get to the gym, and anything you record on the device appears back in The Portal afterwards.

This article covers the basics of both, in the order you will meet them.

Before you start

You need an Enode Pro account and the tablet or phone you plan to coach from. There is no password anywhere in Enode. Every sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email, which submits itself as soon as you type the last digit.

A sensor is the other thing most people bring, and this article assumes you have one, because measured bar velocity is the point of the system. It is worth saying that a sensor is not a requirement to use Enode Pro, though. You can plan sessions, log what was performed by typing in reps, load and reps in reserve, and keep a full training history without ever connecting one. Most coaches end up doing both: tracking the main lifts with a sensor and logging accessory work by hand.

Already an Enode customer? If you used the older Enode Pro app, do not create a new account. Sign in with your existing email and run the data migration from your Dashboard so your history comes across. If your organisation already uses the Enode app that is becoming Enode One, your data is already in the new system and you only need to install Enode Pro.

Part one: set up in The Portal

1. Sign in

Go to portal.enode.ai, enter your email address, and type in the code we send you. Your Dashboard will be empty on day one, which is expected, and a short welcome tour starts on its own.

The sidebar is the whole product. Workspace holds your Dashboard, Planner and Devices. Manage holds your Users, Exercises and Tags. Analyze holds Insights, Profiles and History.

The Portal at portal.enode.ai. Everything is reachable from the sidebar on the left.

2. Add your athletes

Open Users and press Create User. Two fields are worth slowing down for.

Role is fixed once the person is created, so choose it deliberately. Athletes train and record. Coaches manage athletes. Facility users oversee coaches. Owners have access to everything, including the plan and the device list.

Email address is optional, and this is the part most new customers miss. Enter an email and the person is invited to download the app on their personal device. They can sign in on the Portal and see their own results and they can train alone with the Enode Pro app on their device. This can be used in multiple ways, for example, a coach could schedule workouts for an athlete training remotely. Leave it blank and you create a coach-managed profile, which trains and records in exactly the same way but has no login to chase. Coach-managed profiles suit youth squads and large rosters. You can always add an email later.

For anyone who trains, add their weight and height while you are there, since several of the training estimates read from them.

Bringing in a whole squad rather than one athlete? Use Upload roster on the same page and import a spreadsheet instead of typing.

Leaving the email blank creates a coach-managed profile, which records exactly the same data without needing the athlete to sign in.

3. Schedule a workout

Open Planner. Press Create schedule, or click any empty slot in the calendar to fill the time in for you.

The drawer asks for four things: when the session is, which athletes take part, a name and any tags, and the exercises in order. Drag to reorder exercises, group them into supersets, or pull in a saved template.

If the session runs every week, tick Repeats weekly now. If you will run this structure again with different athletes, save the exercise list as a template, and the next one takes seconds to build.

Press Schedule. It is now on your calendar and on the gym device.

Workouts planned here appear automatically on the tablet you coach from.

Part two: train with the app

4. Install the app and sign in

Download Enode Pro from the App Store or Google Play onto the tablet or phone you coach from, and sign in with the same email address.

The app opens on your schedule, and the workout you just planned should be there. Pull down to refresh if it is not.

One thing to check back in The Portal while you are setting up: open Devices. Every signed-in phone and tablet is listed, and each can hold up to three recording stations. One is plenty for a single coach with one group. Set more if you plan to run several groups side by side from the same tablet.

5. Connect your sensor

Tap the connect pill, wake the sensor and hold it near the device. Once connected you get a live 3D view of the sensor and its battery level, then a card showing exactly where the sensor goes for the first exercise. Attach it, calibrate if the app asks, and you are ready.

The app shows sensor orientation and battery as soon as it connects, then tells you where to place it for the exercise you are about to do.

6. Run the session

Tap the workout to open the preparation drawer. This is where you shape the session for today: change who is taking part, add or remove exercises, adjust sets and loads. None of it touches the plan in The Portal, because you are editing today's execution only. Press Start and select your first exercise.

Then lift. Every rep appears on screen the moment the sensor detects it, with the headline metric for that exercise, so bar velocity for strength work and jump height for jumps. Between sets the rest timer runs and the app suggests the next load where it has enough data to be useful.

When a set finishes, Enode has already filled in the reps, load and exertion it detected. Adjust anything that looks wrong and save. To move to the next athlete on the same exercise, tap the avatar in the header or tap the card that pops up that suggests moving to the next athlete or exercise.

Finish with Finish training. The session saves to the device first and uploads in the background, so you can put the tablet down straight away. A gym with no wifi is not a problem: download the day in advance using the offline chip on the schedule and everything syncs when you are back on a connection.

Each rep appears as the sensor detects it, with the metric that matters for that exercise.

Part three: look at what you recorded

Back in The Portal, the Dashboard summarises the last week: active athletes, completed sessions, total volume and sets, each compared against the period before, plus your most-used exercises and most active athletes.

For a single session, open History and click into it. For one athlete on one exercise over time, open Profiles, which gives you their performance analyses in one view with a PDF export for sharing. Insights is where you build your own charts once you know what you want to track.

Profiles puts one athlete's history on one exercise in a single view.

Common questions on day one

Do my athletes need the app? Only if you want them to have it. An athlete with no email address never signs in, and their data records exactly the same way from the gym device. Give an athlete their own login when you want them to see their own results, or when they need to train without you: with the app on their own phone they can run the sessions you have scheduled from wherever they are, and the results come back to you.

Do I have to plan everything in The Portal first? No. The menu on the app's schedule creates a workout on the spot or starts one from a template. Planning ahead is the tidier habit for a squad, but nothing forces it.

Can one tablet handle my whole group? A tablet runs up to three workouts side by side, and each of those workouts can hold as many athletes as you need. So three groups rotating through three lifts is one tablet, not three. Having one tablet per rack is ideal but we know it's not always possible.

Why can't I see a page my colleague has? Roles control what appears, and The Portal hides what you do not have rather than showing you buttons that do nothing. Ask your account owner what your role includes.

What if a sensor drops out mid-set? The app tells you and reconnects. Reps recorded before the drop are kept.

Does every set need a sensor? No. You can type in reps, load and reps in reserve for any set, which is how most coaches handle accessory work, and how you reconstruct a session that happened away from the tablet. Manually logged sets sit in the athlete's history alongside tracked ones. They carry the numbers you entered rather than measured data, so they will not have velocity, bar path or rep-level detail.

Where to go next

Once your first session is done, the two things worth learning early are the in-training guidance, which is what drives the load and rest suggestions you saw between sets, and tags, which is how you keep a growing roster navigable. Both take about five minutes.

Detailed articles for every screen in The Portal and the app are being published alongside this one. If you get stuck before then, contact us from Settings → Help & Support in either The Portal or the app.
