Understanding IP Ratings for our lights

Learn about the IP20 rating of our lights and what it means for bathroom use. Lighting fixtures are rated based on their resistance to dust and water. At meraki., all our lights are rated IP20. But what does this mean for you, especially if you're planning to install them in a bathroom? The IP rating is a two-digit grading system. The first digit refers to the fixture's resistance to solid objects and dust, and the second digit indicates resistance to water. An IP20 rating means that the lighting fixture is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm (such as fingers), but not against water. When it comes to bathroom installation, it's crucial to understand the different zones, as each has specific requirements for lighting safety. - Zone 0: Inside the bath or shower itself. Any fitting used here must be low voltage and be rated at least IP67, which is total immersion proof. - Zone 1: Above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25m from the floor. A minimum rating of IP45 is required here. - Zone 2: The area stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor. An IP rating of at least IP44 is needed here. IP rating zone guide for bathrooms Any area outside of zones 0, 1, and 2 is classified as zone 3, where no IP rating is required. Therefore, while meraki. lights cannot be used in zones 1 and 2, they are perfectly safe and suitable for use in zone 3 areas of your bathroom. Remember, if you're ever in doubt about where to install your lights safely, consult with a qualified electrician to ensure your safety.
