🏁 Riding Your Electric Skateboard – Tips & Best Practices
Riding an electric skateboard is fun and exciting, but it's important to ride safely and smoothly. Follow these tips to
stay in control, avoid falls, and have the best experience!
1. Safety First – Gear Up!
Before you even step on your skateboard, make sure you have the right safety gear.
✅ Wear a helmet – Your Lectec helmet is your most important safety tool!
✅ Wear knee, elbow, and wrist pads – They protect you if you fall.
✅ Check your gear – Make sure your skateboard and remote are turned on and working properly.

2. Finding Your Stance – Regular or Goofy?
When riding a skateboard, your hips and shoulders should face sideways with your best foot forward.
Not sure which foot to put forward?
👟 Imagine you're kicking a ball. The foot you use to kick should go in the back while the other foot stays on the board.
Skateboarding Stances:
🦶 Regular stance: Left foot forward, right foot back.
🦶 Goofy stance: Right foot forward, left foot back.
Try both stances while standing on the board before you start riding.
3. Powering On & Getting Ready to Ride
Before hopping on, let’s make sure everything is working correctly.
1. Turn on your skateboard: Press the power button on the board.
2. Turn on the remote: Hold the power button until it lights up.
3. Set your speed mode: Start with the lowest speed setting (Mode 1) so you can get used to the controls.
Test Your Wheels Before Riding:
- Place your skateboard on the ground.
- Gently push forward on the throttle to make sure the wheels spin in the right direction.
- Pull back on the throttle to brake before stepping on the board.
4. Stepping On & Balancing Like a Pro
When you get on a moving train, do you stand with your feet close together? No way! The same goes for your skateboard.
How to Stand on the Board:
✔️ Feet shoulder-width apart – This keeps you balanced.
✔️ Knees slightly bent – Helps absorb movement.
✔️ Place your front foot at an angle (a little sideways) near the front bolts.
✔️ Your back foot should be straight across the board near the rear bolts.
💡 Tip: If you feel wobbly, hold onto a buddy’s elbow or shoulder for balance while you practice.
5. Moving & Stopping Smoothly
📌 Biggest mistake? Slamming on the brakes or jamming the throttle! This can throw you off balance. Instead, follow these
smooth, controlled steps:
How to Move Forward:
1. Step on the board and gently push the throttle forward.
2. Lean slightly forward to keep your balance.
3. Avoid jerky movements - think smooth gliding!
How to Slow Down & Stop:
1. Lean into your back leg.
2. Slowly pull back on the throttle until you come to a stop.
3. If you need to stop quickly, bend your knees and stay low while braking.
6. Turning Like a Pro
Turning takes small, smooth movements - not big jerks!
How to Turn:
- Lean slightly on your toes to turn one way.
- Lean slightly on your heels to turn the other way.
- Keep your upper body relaxed and facing in the direction you're turning.
7. Choosing the Right Speed Mode
Your Lectec electric skateboard has 4 speed modes for different experience levels.
📌 Tip: Keep your board in Mode 1 while learning. You can increase speed as you get better!
1. Mode 1 (3 MPH) = Learning to ride
2. Mode 2 (5 MPH) = Comfortable riders
3. Mode 3 (6.5 MPH) = Intermediate riders
4. Mode 4 (8 MPH) = Experienced riders
8. Riding on Different Surfaces
Your board works best on smooth pavement, but you may run into bumps or cracks.
How to Ride Over Small Bumps & Cracks:
✔️ Bend your knees to absorb impact.
✔️ Keep a firm grip on the remote to avoid accidental throttle changes.
✔️ Shift your weight slightly back before rolling over.
DO NOT Ride On:
🚫 Big potholes or deep cracks – Can throw you off balance.
🚫 Wet roads or puddles – Water makes the wheels slippery and damages electronics.
🚫 Gravel, sand, or grass – Increases rolling resistance and makes the ride unstable.
9. What to Do If You Fall
Even the best riders fall sometimes - that’s why we wear safety gear!
If you start to lose balance:
- Try to step off onto grass or a soft surface.
- If you fall, tuck your arms in and roll to absorb impact - don’t put your hands out first!
10. Best Practices for a Safe Ride
1. Always wear your helmet and pads.
2. Start slow and work your way up.
3. Stay aware of people and obstacles.
4. Charge your battery before riding so your board doesn’t stop unexpectedly.
5. Be smooth with the throttle and brakes—no sudden movements!
