Can I use the Pianta in my own lamp? (Wattage and fitting guide)
Yes! The Pianta bulb is designed to work in any standard lamp, not just Grow Gang fixtures. It's available in two
fitting types:
- E27 (screw fit) — the most common fitting in modern lamps and European fixtures
- B22 (bayonet fit) — the traditional UK push-and-twist fitting
You can use it in a floor lamp, desk lamp, ceiling pendant, table lamp, or any other fixture that accepts the
corresponding fitting. You don't need to buy a Grow Gang fixture to use the bulb.
Not sure which fitting you have?
Check your existing bulb or lamp socket:
- E27 — the bulb screws in with a twist. Common in modern and European-style fittings.
- B22 — the bulb pushes in and twists to lock, with two small pins on the side. Traditional UK standard.
Check your lamp's wattage rating
The Pianta 18W draws 18 watts of power. Although the risk is low due to the bulb's aluminium heat sink, we recommend
using it in a fixture rated for 18W or higher. Check the label on your lamp or inside the socket — it will usually say
something like "Max 40W" or "Max 60W".
If your lamp is rated below 18W for LED bulbs, we'd suggest using one of our own fixtures (the Stelo clip-on or
Adjustable Floor Lamp) which are designed specifically for the Pianta.
Keep it close to your plants
While the Pianta works in any compatible fitting, remember that for best results the light should be within 25-90cm of
your plants. If you're planning to use it in a ceiling light that's far from your plants, it may be too far away to
provide enough light for healthy growth. In that case, a floor lamp, clip-on, or low-hanging pendant will give much
better results. Think of the Pianta as a targeted spotlight for your plants, rather than general room lighting.
