Battery-Powered Grow Lights: Are They Practical?

By Lorenzo • Last updated on Feb 11, 2025

We’ve had quite a few requests for a battery-powered grow light, and while we understand the appeal, we’ve found it’s not the most practical option.

Grow lights typically consume between 18-33W and are often used for 8-16 hours a day. A battery-powered version would require a large, expensive battery that would likely need recharging daily. This would make it both costly and inconvenient to use.

Additionally, we’re mindful of the environmental impact. Large rechargeable batteries are difficult and expensive to recycle, and we want to promote sustainable solutions.

For a more flexible setup, we recommend using a plug-in grow light with a timer—this way, you get the benefits of consistent lighting without the hassle of daily charging. If you need more placement options, an extension cord can help position the light exactly where you need it. Although we understand it isn’t the neatest solution, it’s often the most reliable and efficient.
