How to use the Cartisan Flex
What's in the Box
Your Flex comes with:
- Flex battery (always included)
- Flex Wax Atomizer (always included) — a ceramic orbital heating chamber optimized for concentrate vaporization,
delivering even heat and enhanced flavor
- Flex Flower Atomizer (included in the combo package) — a stainless steel chamber designed for flower
- USB-C charging cable
Both atomizers are also available separately at cartisan.tech as replacements.
Before You Start
Charge your device. Plug the Flex in using the included USB-C cable. The red LED stays on while charging, and a full
charge takes about 100 minutes. The device cannot be used while charging. Use a standard 5V/0.5A USB source — fast
chargers aren't supported and will trigger overvoltage protection.
Never submerge any part of the Flex — battery or atomizers — in alcohol or water. See the Cleaning section for the right
way to clean each part.
How the Flex Works
The Flex automatically detects which atomizer is attached and switches to the right mode. You don't change modes
manually — just screw on the atomizer you want to use:
- Flex Flower Atomizer attached → Voltage Mode (5 levels, for dry flower)
- Flex Wax Atomizer attached → Temperature Mode (3 levels, for concentrates)
- Standard 510 cartridge attached → Voltage Mode (5 levels, for oil cartridges)
When you attach an atomizer correctly, the device vibrates once to confirm the connection. If you don't feel a
vibration, the atomizer isn't seated properly — see Troubleshooting.
Button Basics
The Flex uses a single button:
- 5 clicks — power on or off (device vibrates, LED blinks 5 times)
- 1 click (while on) — cycle through the levels for the current mode
- Press and hold (Flower Atomizer or 510 cart) — fire while inhaling
- 2 clicks (Wax Atomizer) — start a temperature-controlled session
Note: if you've used other Cartisan variable-voltage devices, the Flex cycles differently. Most Cartisan VV devices
use 3 clicks to change voltage — the Flex uses 1.
Battery Level Indicator
Every time you power the Flex on or attach a new atomizer, the LED briefly shows your remaining battery:
- 🟢 Green — more than 75%
- 🔵 Blue — 35% to 75%
- 🔴 Red — less than 35%
This is separate from the mode-select colors. After the battery-level flash, the LED will display the color of your
current voltage or temperature setting.
When the battery drops below 3.2V, the red LED flashes 10 times as a low-battery warning. Recharge before your next
session.
Using the Flex with Flower
1. Attach the Flex Flower Atomizer. Screw it all the way down onto the battery — the threads should disappear into the
battery with no visible gap. If it feels overtightened, back off about a quarter turn. You'll feel a single
vibration when the connection is good.
2. Load the chamber. Add finely ground flower — enough to fill the chamber about three-quarters full. Don't pack it
down. Airflow matters more than density: if your draws feel thin or the flower still looks green after a session,
you're packing too tightly. Loosen it with a poker rather than adding more.
3. Power on. Click the button 5 times quickly.
4. Select your voltage. Click the button once to cycle through the five voltage levels:
- 🟡 Yellow — 2.2V
- 🟣 Purple — 2.8V
- 🟢 Green — 3.2V
- 🔵 Blue — 3.6V
- 🔴 Red — 4.0V
Start lower for milder pulls; move up for bigger hits. The Flex remembers your last setting.
5. Start your session. Press and hold the button while inhaling. The LED lights up while you're firing.
6. Session cutoff. If you hold the button for more than 15 seconds continuously, the device cuts off automatically (red
LED flashes 4 times) and enters standby to protect the battery. Release, wait a moment, and continue.
7. Power off. 5 clicks.
8. Let it cool before cleaning or switching atomizers.
A note on hit style: the Flex Flower Atomizer is designed for smooth, even-tempered draws — not heavy, dense clouds. For
the biggest pulls, set voltage to Red (4.0V) and grind your flower finer. If you're after thicker rips, a desktop or
larger-format dry herb vape will get you closer.
Using the Flex with Concentrates
1. Attach the Flex Wax Atomizer. Screw it all the way down onto the battery — the threads should disappear into the
battery with no visible gap. If it feels overtightened, back off about a quarter turn. You'll feel a single
vibration when the connection is good.
2. Load the chamber. Add a small amount of concentrate. Don't overpack.
3. Power on. Click the button 5 times quickly.
4. Select your temperature. Click the button once to cycle through the three levels:
- 🟢 Green — Low (400°F)
- 🔵 Blue — Medium (500°F)
- 🔴 Red — High (600°F)
5. Start your session. Click the button twice quickly. The device vibrates once and begins heating — you'll see the LED
indicators flow clockwise around the ring as it heats up.
6. Inhale when ready. When the LED ring is fully lit and the device vibrates a second time (at 300°F), it's ready.
Inhale as the temperature gradually rises to your preset level. The indicators unwind counterclockwise during
vaping.
7. End the session. Sessions last up to 28 seconds and end automatically with a vibration and the LED fading out. To
end early, click the button twice.
8. Power off. 5 clicks.
9. Let it cool before cleaning or switching atomizers.
Pacing your session: the 28-second window is not a single required draw. You can inhale in shorter sips throughout — the
temperature rises gradually, so later sips hit harder than earlier ones. To end a session early, double-click; the
device vibrates and the LED fades out.
A note on terminology: some people call the double-click a "preheat." What's actually happening is the device runs a
single continuous heating-and-vaping cycle — there's no separate preheat step. Once you double-click, the chamber heats
and the session is live.
Using the Flex with Standard 510 Cartridges
The Flex battery works with any standard 510-thread cartridge.
1. Screw the cart on — snug, not overtightened.
2. Power on: 5 clicks.
3. Set voltage: 1 click cycles through the five levels above. Start on Yellow or Purple for thin distillate; move up
for thicker oils.
4. Press and hold the button while inhaling.
5. Power off: 5 clicks.
Switching Between Atomizers
Always power off first, let the atomizer cool, then unscrew and swap. The Flex will auto-detect the new atomizer and
enter the right mode when you next power on — no settings to change. Screw the new atomizer all the way down so the
threads disappear into the battery with no visible gap. You'll feel a single vibration when it's seated properly. If you
don't feel a vibration, or the LED flashes white three times when you try to use it, the connection isn't right — see
Troubleshooting.
How Often Can I Use the Flex?
The Flex is designed for back-to-back sessions. A few things worth knowing:
- The battery may warm up during heavy use. That's normal and not a sign of damage. If the body feels uncomfortable to
hold (not just warm), give it a minute or two to cool.
- Built-in protections. The device has overheat protection that cuts power if internal temperatures get too high, and
a low-battery cutoff that protects the cells from over-discharge.
- Between wax sessions. No required wait time, but leaving 30–60 seconds between sessions lets the chamber cool
slightly and extends the life of the heating element.
- Between flower sessions. No wait time needed — you can fire continuously until the 15-second voltage cutoff kicks
in, then release and continue.
- Charging while warm. Let the device cool to room temperature before plugging it in to charge. Hot-charging shortens
battery life.
Cleaning Your Flex
Never submerge any part of the Flex in alcohol or water. This damages the electronics inside the atomizers, not just the
battery.
Flex Flower Atomizer:
1. Power off and detach.
2. Empty any residue from the chamber.
3. Wipe the interior with a dry cotton swab or small brush.
4. For stubborn residue, lightly dampen a cotton swab with 91%+ isopropyl alcohol and wipe only the interior surfaces.
Never soak, never pour alcohol inside.
5. Let the atomizer air dry completely — several hours to be safe — before reattaching.
Flex Wax Atomizer (ceramic orbital chamber):
1. Power off and let it cool.
2. Wipe out visible residue with a dry cotton swab.
3. To burn off stuck residue, reattach to the battery, set to Green (Low, 400°F), and fire briefly for 1–2 seconds —
similar to dry-burning a banger. Let it cool, then wipe again.
4. For heavy buildup, a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol is fine on the interior only. Never soak.
Battery:
- Wipe the 510 threads and center pin with a lightly dampened isopropyl alcohol swab.
- Keep moisture away from the button and USB-C port.
- Never wipe the body with a wet cloth.
LED Error Codes
If the Flex behaves unexpectedly, the LED tells you what's wrong:
White flashes 3 times: no atomizer is detected.
Check that the atomizer is seated, clean the 510 threads and center pin.
Red flashes 3 times: short circuit or overload protection.
Detach the atomizer, check for damage, clean threads, reattach
Red flashes 4 times (then standby): 15-second vaping timeout.
Release the button, wait, and continue
Red flashes 10 times: Low battery.
Recharge. You cannot use it while it's charging.
Troubleshooting
Atomizer won't register, LED flashes white 3 times, or a previously working atomizer has stopped:
1. Clean the 510 threads and center pin on both the battery and the atomizer with an isopropyl-alcohol-dampened cotton
swab. Let both sides dry completely before reattaching.
2. Don't overtighten. Screw on until snug, then back off a quarter turn.
3. Check the battery's center pin — the small gold pin needs to make firm contact. If it looks recessed, gently lift it
back up with a toothpick.
4. Fully charge the battery. Low charge can cause connection failures.
5. Power off (5 clicks), reattach, power back on.
6. Confirm you feel the single vibration when the atomizer is seated. No vibration means no proper connection.
If the atomizer still won't register, contact support with your order number and a short video.
Device won't turn on at all:
- Charge for at least 30 minutes to rule out a dead battery.
- Try a different USB-C cable or wall adapter (must be 5V/0.5A — fast chargers are not supported).
- If the red LED doesn't come on while plugged in, contact support.
Device works on one atomizer but not the other:
The Flex auto-detects each atomizer by electrical resistance. If one works and the other doesn't, the issue is with the
non-working atomizer, not the battery. Clean its threads and try again. If cleaning doesn't help, the atomizer likely
needs replacement.
Compatibility FAQ
Will Flex atomizers work on other 510 batteries? The atomizers are 510-threaded and will physically screw onto any
standard 510 battery, but the multi-level voltage and temperature modes are built for the Flex battery specifically. On
a different battery, the atomizer will run at whatever that battery's voltage is, without the Flex's auto-detect and
temperature control.
Will the Flex battery work with standard 510 cartridges? Yes — any 510 cart screws on and works in voltage mode.
Do atomizer and battery colorways need to match? No. Any Flex atomizer works on any Flex battery regardless of color.
Can I buy replacement atomizers? Yes — both the Flex Flower Atomizer and Flex Wax Atomizer are sold separately at
cartisan.tech.
